UOG Alumni Update - August 23

GINEN I HILA' I MAGA'TAOTAO SIHA SEEKS NEW MEMBERS

Guam's foremost storytelling group, Ginen I Hila' I Maga'taotao Siha (From the Tongues of the Noble People) that represented Guam at the Tenth Festival of the Pacific Arts held in American Samoa in 2008, is seeking new members through an audition at 7pm on Thursday, September 3, at the University of Guam's Humanities and Social Sciences Building, Room 101.

Auditions are open to those who can present a story in any format such as puppetry, mime, music, instrumentation, and props and the subject matter may dwell on jokes, riddles, personal experiences, family pastimes, ghost stories, superstitious beliefs, traditions, children and/or adult oriented, gender distinctive, myths, legends, the sharing of an heirloom, artifact, photo, souvenir, art piece, knickknack, decoration, and food as well as oral histories handed down from generations to generations. Proficiency in CHamoru is not a requirement. Interviews will also be conducted by the group.

The group meets on the first and third Thursdays of every month at 7pm at the University of Guam. There is a yearly membership dues payable at its election meeting in November.

Plans are underway for the second annual Fright Night, participation in the Guam Micronesian Island Fair and the Estorian I Tasi yan I Tano' at Gef Pa'go in Inalahan, as well as preparations for participation at the Eleventh Festival of the Pacific Arts in the Solomon Islands in 2012.
