National Association for Bilingual Education (NABE) Conference Presentation

UOG Charter Day 2015 Meaningful


The University of Guam celebrated its 47th Charter Day on March 10, 2015.  This year’s theme is No Place Like Home.  Thousands of young and old alike participated in the annual event.  The 36th Annual Research Conference (ARC) hosted by UOG’s College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences also held its insightful workshops.  

There were cultural displays, CHamoru Language Competition, SOE activities/shows, chemistry titration competition, food vendors, dance performances, live music, obstacle course, carnival games, and more!  We hope to see you at next year’s celebration!

UOG Alumni at the 44th NABE Conference

Pictured L-R:  UOG Alumni Professor Rosa Salas Palomo and Dr. Matilda Naputi Rivera take a pose at Paris, Bally's Las Vegas during the 44th Annual National Association for Bilingual Education (NABE) Conference.  The theme of the conference is Achieving Global Competence:  Biliteracy for All!  The pre-conference started March 4 and the rest of the conference will continue until March 7, 2015.  Palomo is scheduled to chair the Asia Pacific Special Interest Group, and Dr. Rivera will be sharing her presentation titled Creatively Using Digital Storytelling to Scaffold Literacy in the ESL Classroom.

The National Association for Bilingual Education is the only nationwide network of professionals dedicated to serving English language learners in the United States via education programs and legislative advocacy. For the past four decades, NABE has been committed to excellence in bilingual and biliteracy education for all students through enriched educational programs and intensive professional development for teachers, administrators, professors, policymakers and parents. Additionally, NABE provides extensive research in the field via its Bilingual Research Journal, NABE Perspectives, NABE Journal of Research and Practice and the NABE eNews. NABE is committed to promoting programs and innovations that prepare our nation's students to be fluently bilingual, technologically creative, globally competitive and well-rounded world citizens by advancing legislation and policies at both the state and national levels that best serve language minority students.
